There's a developing movement in the United States today concerning the food industry. Books are filling shelves on the value of fresh foods and breaking away from the mass production model. Organic produce is showing up in all kinds of stores, including Walmart. There's also two new movies out on the subject, Food, Inc. and FRESH. So, what does the Glocal Family think of all this, plus an interview with Door to Door Organics.

Storing Bulk Veggies

This week on the podcast, we talked about fresh food and how, through Door to Door Organics, you can have fresh fruits and veggies delivered to your door. But what do you do with that bulk order when it arrives? How do you not lose that great produce in the back of the crisper? This week, Anita shares her tip to not only keep food from being forgotten, but also to make prep easier the rest of the week.

Nut-Butter Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup peanut butter or other nut butter
    1 cup sugar
    1 egg

Directions:

    Mix ingredients together.
Drop by teaspoons full on greased cookie sheet, making sure to space them out.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes.
Makes about a dozen, but they taste so much better right out of the oven or in the first day or two, so don't make too many. We use crunchy sunflower butter and they are delicious!

Grilled Hamburgers

Ingredients:

    ground beef
    diced onion
    garlic
    spices
    etc

Directions:

Take your ground beef and place in a big mixing bowl.
Add your onions, garlic, spices and whatever other ingredients you wish to the beef.
    Mix well.
Form patties from the mixture and stick on your grill.
Grill to your liking and enjoy!
I don't use any bread in my 'hamburger salad' but feel free to fix your hamburger however you like.
Tip: make sure the ingredients you add to your hamburger mixture are going to grill well (i.e. don't add avocadoes) and don't add too much. You're going to want the majority of the mixture to be hamburger meat.
