Why Be Glocal?

You are missing some Flash content that should appear here! Perhaps your browser cannot display it, or maybe it did not initialise correctly.

This week on the Glocal Family Podcast we offer some of the reasons people should live glocally, that is, live lives that serve the greater good. Along the way we have conversation with Vicky and Jen from vickyandjen.com, we talk about a contest on Twitter Moms, and we pass on info about a great homemade bread mix and how to make homemade diaper wipes.

So, did we miss any reasons to be glocal? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

1. For two months in India, I

For two months in India, I washed mainly by filling a jug of warm-ish water and slapping the water over me. I have this horrible feeling that every time I have a shower now, I use more water than what I did the whole time I was there!

Even in the few hotels we stayed in, there were notes asking guests not to use too much water. There is a very limited supply of water in India. They don't get it all the time. Once it's gone, it's gone.

On hanging out with the locals: a couple of the girls on the trip were talking to some of the locals, and found out something interesting: I had the idea (and I think maybe it is a common misconception), that local people in places with "dirty" water get used to it, so don't need the bottled "clean" water. This is not the case: they just can't afford the clean water, so have to take their chances with the dirty water. If they drink it, they have just as much chance of getting sick as we do!

2. Just for a bit of perspective

Just for a bit of perspective on this, when I was in England, I was blown away by how little water you folks use. Be it the way you save dishwater, minimize shower water, or use any extra little bit in the garden.

Now a Brit is feeling abusive ... make me feel almost criminal in my water usage.

3. Hi Joe & Anita! I enjoyed

Hi Joe & Anita! I enjoyed your show so much! You've made me think about many things I could be doing much better . . . i.e., turning equipment off at night! I'll work on these things.

I'm so proud of Aidan, who is 7 years old, when he tells our guests regarding the potty: "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down." LOL. Sure, mom, dad and Aidan save water like this BUT when company comes over ?!?! Eeeek!

Keep up the good work guys! You make a good team. And thanks for teaching us how to live more glocally. Smiles, Vicky
